Seven Centuries of Warsaw - the exhibition rooms of the Historical Museum of Warsaw occupy the ground floor and the three storeys of eight houses (Nos. 28-42) on the Old Town Square. The exhibition presents the history of Warsaw from the earliest times (prior to the town's foundation about 1300) up to the political struggle after the creation of the Solidarity trade union, up to December 22, 1990, when Lech Wałęsa was sworn in as the President of the Republic of Poland.

The Historical Museum of Warsaw has a number of movable exhibitions at its disposal, all of which can be borrowed by schools and other educational institutions:
Polish anthems and patriotic songs
Bolesław Prus. The image of Warsaw from 1863 till 1914

Having overcome technical problems thanks to the commitment of Public Land Administration for Central Warsaw (Zarząd Terenów Publicznych – Oddział Śródmieście), the Museum managed to open the Barbican exhibition towards the end of the tourist season.
The exhibition consists of two independent parts. The first part explains, unfortunately in a very simplified way, why Warsaw’s Old Town was included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
